I am starting this blog to see if I can use technology and character education to teach my students to use personal devices in the classroom.
I started thinking how can I show my students to use technology in an authentic way. Who could I ask? I pondered, I'm not in the classroom, it's summer. Ah ha! My two teenagers and their 15 year old cousins. So we had a debate on Instagram and Twitter. The consensus was no one is going to use their Twitter or Instagram for educational purposes.
Step1- How do I get people to follow me?
Step 2- What the heck do I tweet about to cause a buzz?
Step3- Find something kids are interested in. Think like a teenager. Celebrities!
Step 4- Prove my theory. If you research a celebrity, you can be clever to find out their passions. Start using the internet to find out about your celebs. Start tweeting and retweeting. So I laid the gauntlet down and took the challenge. I picked three celebrities to try this social experiment to see if I could get one of these athletes to retweet a teacher from South Jersey. We will see at the end of this journey if I was successful.
Step 5- What does this have to do with character education. I'm teaching my students Grit and perseverance.
Let the games begin! Zach Ertz, Russell Wilson & Carli Lloyd.
